Popular Beaches
Being an island, Sri Lanka naturally has a wide variety of beaches to offer. The variety of beaches adds to its allure. Sri Lanka has a 1600-kilometer coastline with a number of coves, bays, and lagoons. A trip to the beach in Sri Lanka is a valuable experience that can only be provided by nature. A beach vacation in Sri Lanka is one that you are unlikely to forget because of the magnificence of the ocean captured in the peace of bays, the rich marine life nurtured by nature in the mangroves of a lagoon, the palm-shaded shade of a cove, and the foam dripping waves that are in constant motion along with endless miles of wide swaths of sand bordered by the Indian Ocean.
Scuba diving, kayaking, sailing, water skiing, and wind surfing are a few of the water sports in here. The real “scuba diving” adventure can be experienced in some of the country’s most remote locations, like as the Great Basses, where you can search for Surat coins from a drowned merchant of Mogul Emperor Aurang Zeb. A beach holiday in Sri Lanka is possible year-round anytime you choose to take advantage of beautiful tropical beaches thanks to the two monsoon wind systems. The south western shore is bright and the sea takes a while to wake up from November to March thanks to the north east breezes. The South West breezes calm the waves off the East Coast, and the sun shines brilliantly in harmony.
Kalpitiya
The Puttalam lagoon’s Kalpitiya is home to a community of traditional fisherman families that live comfortably by the water. There are several coral reefs, sea grass beds, and mangroves at Kalpitiya and the nearby small islands, you will see fourteen peaceful islands and shimmering beaches that are copper in color. The combination creates a paradise for swimming, snorkeling, and observing whales and dolphins while on a lengthy holiday in Sri Lanka.
On the map of Sri Lankan beach resorts, this beach is becoming more and more important. The beach is surrounded by a lagoon on one side and the sea on the other, and it is in a condition of languid solitude.

Negombo
The majority of the beach resorts are found to the north of Negombo town. Long lengths of shoreline are filled with enticements on land and in the water. While you watch a string of far-off fishing boats keep the chefs of Sri Lanka’s finest hotels busy with their daily catch, the well-appointed collection of resort hotels seem to be working together to tempt you into swimming, diving, and wind surfing rather than sunbathing.

Mount Lavinia
The lovely beachfront that is nearest to Colombo’s city offers a relaxing beach resort experience together with suburban Colombo’s amenities.

Kalutara
The sandy, golden beach of Kalutara offers everything from luxury hotels to quiet retreats away from the crowd’s agitation. The beach’s relatively long length is ideal for swimming.

Beruwala
Its main attraction is the calm harbor with a palm-lined beach, which indicates that an Eden resort is nearby. The white minarets of the Kechimalai Mosque stand out among the village of Beruwala’s architectural features, this relates to the tale of the early Arab merchants who docked their ships in this harbor. Great facilities are available for water sports.

Bentota
The calmness of the sea in Bentota is never lost, until it is hampered by the ferocity of the south-west monsoon winds. Fortunately, this unusual wind behavior only takes place from May through July. Due to the calm sea and expansive golden-hued sandy beaches, some of Sri Lanka’s most renowned luxury hotels are situated here.

Hikkaduwa
The only hippie beachside town on the south coast is called Hikkaduwa. It’s a popular tourist destination with a distinct personality and some of Sri Lanka’s top surfing waves. Hikkaduwa draws a wide range of visitors looking for the ideal party or vacation destination since it is well known across the world for its fantastic beach parties and laid-back hammock lifestyle. Initially, Hikkaduwa served as a backpacker haven on a tight budget, but today, more upscale amenities coexist with less expensive lodging. You may go diving, swim out to the Hikkaduwa rocks that dominate the seascape, or take a glass-bottom boat trip to see the famed coral reefs in addition to swimming and relaxing on the beach.

Unawatuna
Unawatuna is now well-known for having one of the nicest beaches in the world as well as for the catchphrase “I love UNA,” which encapsulates the adoration it enjoys from both tourists and residents. Unawatuna, a small fishing hamlet on the coast 10 minutes south of the renowned Galle Dutch Colonial fort, has emerged as Sri Lanka’s premier beach destination. Unawatuna has evolved into a home away from home where relaxing swims, snorkeling, ayurvedic treatments, stunning coral reefs, and a variety of fish and turtles live in peace and harmony. Una is unquestionably the place to go if you need to get away from the craziness of work or get some much-needed relaxation and pleasure.

Weligama
Weligama, which translates to “sandy village” in the local tongue, is a charming fishing community famous for its stilt fishermen. The town is proud of the gorgeous view of the bay that the curving shoreline offers. Weligama used to be a less popular tourist destination with long lengths of deserted beaches, but in more recent years it has developed into a well-known surf location with a number of iconic surfing locations. The waves that appear to reach unanticipated heights provide a paradise for the surfers that congregate here. It’s a great location to unwind after spending a few hours whale watching on the open waters because it’s close to Mirissa.

Dalawella
Frog Rock, just east of Unawatuna, presides over Dalawella’s slender champagne sands. The idyllic aqua-blue lagoon, also known as Wijeya Beach after its most popular restaurant, is protected by a reef, so you can swim or paddle here for much of the year. It’s a great place for families, especially since curious turtles frequently appear.

Hiriketiya
Hiriketiya’s deep bay is a real showpiece, surrounded by a pair of jungle-tangled headlands. This dramatic setting, low-key atmosphere, and year-round swimming, discovered by sun-kissed surfers, now has universal appeal. The bay, hidden beneath coconut palms, is home to a chic collection of timber-frame restaurants, coffee shops, guesthouses, and villas that stretch up and over the western hill on their way to neighbouring Dikwella’s vast sandy bay.

Kabalana
Kabalana, part of Ahangama’s laid-back surf-and-yoga spot, feels like a quieter, more intimate alternative to Weligama or Unawatuna. Arrange surf lessons from beachfront restaurants, or rent a board to ride local breaks like the Rock, which is said to be Sri Lanka’s best deep-reef break. After dark, the spotlight shifts to the gourmet restaurants that line the busy Galle-Matara road.

Mawella
Mawella is a beautiful but little-known south coast beach. Its 2km (1.2 mile) crescent-shaped bay is surrounded by a small collection of boutique hotels, villas, and simple bungalows set in lush palm-shaded grounds. Despite the fact that it is only 7km (4.3 miles) from Tangalla, those in the know come here for a rare taste of southern escapism and intend to do very little. Having said that, the rolling waves are great for bodyboarding, and the long beach is ideal for early-morning runs.

Casuarina Beach
As you travel further north on the Jaffna peninsula, the beaches become barren, windswept, and remote. Many are deserted and provide little shade, so it’s no surprise that idyllic Casuarina Beach, named after the variety of trees that fringe the sand, is so popular, despite the challenging 40-minute cross-island drive from Jaffna. Casuarina is busiest on weekends, with day-trip family groups enjoying the warm, shallow sea.

Mirissa
It has a south west coast-specific appeal that is captivating. From November to April, it is without a doubt the ideal location to watch whales, including sperm whales, pilot whales, killer whales swim along with bottlenose dolphins, Humpback whales, and even the fun antics of Spinner dolphins. With Wonderland Leisure, you may take a fantastic trip and observe these lovely marine creatures in their native environment.

Arugam Bay
This beach is for you if you’re a surfer looking for waves that will challenge you. Arugam bay has become one of Sri Lanka’s most popular surfing locations as a result of surfers’ discovery of the bay. The stunning bay, with its lovely sweeping beach, tremendous waves, and long, reliable breakers, is one of the top 10 surfing locations in the world. If you also appreciate wild elephants, cheeky monkeys, and crocodiles, you are unquestionably at home.

Nilaveli
North of Trincomalee, an Eastern coastal town, lies a 30 km stretch of beach. The well-known Nilaveli beach, in the middle of the strip, has all the characteristics of an island paradise. A relaxing seaside vacation or a jam-packed itinerary of activities are both possibilities in Nilaveli. It offers all one might desire in terms of marine life, sports, and relaxation on peaceful beachfronts, making it without a doubt the greatest beach in the east of the island.
