Day Tour

Negombo Lagoon Fishing

The tourist attractions of Sri Lanka are all represented in the city of Negombo. The Negombo lagoon, the sea, the beautiful beaches, and a sizable polyglot community all capture the spirit of the ideal Sri Lanka vacation. Ornate Hindu temples, Buddhist temples, Christian churches, and Muslim mosques bear witness to the spiritual concord of a multicultural community that has seen it all from the period of exploration, commerce, and conquest. When a flight from Sri Lanka lands at the nearby international airport, the Dutch Canal and a Fort is ready to attest to its claim that it should be your first stop in Sri Lanka. The availability of swimming, snorkeling, diving, wind surfing, deep sea fishing, and scuba diving facilities explains why Sri Lankan vacations are a convenient package that provide several benefits and good value. Early on, Arab traders who traveled to Serendib (Sri Lanka) in quest of cinnamon used Negombo as a commercial port. The trade station managed to survive the three European conquests by adapting to the ups and downs of political dominance and commercial possibilities. Negombo transformed into a melting pot of many cultures, languages, faiths, and groups as a result of this process.

Negombo Lagoon Fishing Day Tour

Ayubowan!

Negombo City Tour Included with Hamilton Canal or Muthurajawela Bird Watching – Guests Can Choose 01 Activity of Their Choice with Negombo – Day Tour.

Negombo, one of the country’s oldest fishing towns, is located along Sri Lanka’s West Coast. In addition to its centuries-old fishing industry, Negombo is known for its wide sandy beaches and well-preserved Dutch and Portuguese ruins.

A Negombo Lagoon Fishing Day Tour is the ideal activity for exploring Negombo’s buzzing fish market, purchasing fresh local fish, sailing through the mangroves, observing the art of local fishing, and even trying your hand at it!

Witness the village life of fishermen, a bamboo forest, and birds on a tropical countryside boat trip in the Hamilton Canal. Follow the historic route of the spice traders along the Hamilton Canal, then cruise upstream on the spectacular Maha Oya River to experience a tropical countryside. We can stop at a sandy beach for a refreshing swim in fresh water. We will next stop along the way at one of the river or beach resort restaurants for a chilled beer with lunch. This boat trip will take about 1.5 hours, and if you stop for lunch, it will take about 2.5 hours. If the sea conditions are favourable, we may be able to return by sea.

Optionally, you could also take a Catamaran Ride along the canal or a Bird Watching trip at Muthurajawela for a different perspective on Negombo sightseeing.

ST. MARY’S CHURCH

The St. Mary’s Church in Negombo is a landmark structure, a Roman Catholic Church in the heart of the city. It is one of Sri Lanka’s largest cathedrals. Since its occupation by the Portuguese, Negombo has been heavily influenced by the Christian faith. The city is often referred to as “Little Rome” due to its abundance of churches. The church’s construction began in 1874 and was completed in 1922, after a lengthy delay.

FISH MARKET

The Negombo Fish Market is unique in that it takes place right on the beach, directly from the fishing boats. On Negombo’s shore, crowds of fishermen can be seen untangling their fishing nets, playing with their children, and stretching out miles of fish to dry in the sun. A must-see attraction in Negombo.

Muthurajawela Bird Watching (Option 2)

Muthurajawela, a popular bird-watching location. This excursion will take you to the southern end of Negombo Lagoon to see these pristine marshlands. Relax as we take you across the main lagoon to the marshes’ narrow channels, where we may see a variety of birds and wildlife. Cormorants, Ducks, Egrets, Herons, Storks, Eagles, Terns, Swallows, Swifts, Kingfishers, and other resident birds would be visible.

Aside from the abundant bird life, you may see monkeys such as the Toque Macaque, prawn fishermen in the lagoon, seagoing fishing catamarans returning home after a night at sea, and mangrove vegetation. This is a 2 to 3 hour early morning boat ride with the option of coffee and cakes at a popular lagoon resort.
