Nilaveli

North of Trincomalee, an Eastern coastal town, lies a 30 km stretch of beach. The well-known Nilaveli beach, in the middle of the strip, has all the characteristics of an island paradise. A relaxing seaside vacation or a jam-packed itinerary of activities are both possibilities in Nilaveli. The popular Pigeon Island, which receives its name from the blue rock pigeons that nest there, is located just a few hundred meters offshore of Nilaveli Beach. While swimming or fishing in Red Rocks Bay and Kuchchaveli contribute to the various choices by which to taste the surrounding seas, coral reefs make snorkeling and diving two popular sports. In addition to the well-known historical buildings in Trincomalee, there is also an old vatadage in Tiriyaya that belongs to the 7th or 8th century and is said to contain a remnant of the Buddha’s hair.
